Join our Mission Vetster is seeking a pioneering and passionate Veterinarian to join us as our first full-time contract veterinarian in the United States. This multifaceted role is designed for a veterinarian ready to move beyond the traditional clinic and shape the future of telemedicine. In this position, you will serve as a dual-threat contributor: providing exceptional remote care (80% of your time) with a heavy focus on exotic animals, while acting as a voice for Vetster within the pet health community (20% of your time). You will bridge the gap between clinical excellence and industry advocacy by representing Vetster in the media and mentoring our network of independent-contractor veterinarians. Reporting directly to the VP of Business Operations, this individual will be a key player in shaping the future of pet healthcare at Vetster. This position will work in close coordination with our medical team, including our veterinary consultant. Please note that this is a fully remote, independent contractor engagement based in the US, with quarterly travel within Canada and/or the continental US. What You’ll Do: As the US Lead Veterinarian, you will act as the clinical anchor for our US operations, specifically driving our capabilities in exotic animal care and medical quality. • Provide high-quality telemedicine consultations for multi-species, including but not limited to cats, dogs, and exotics, across the country, ensuring pet parents everywhere have access to top-tier advice. • Serve as an Assigned Continuing Veterinarian for the Vetster platform, providing continuity of care when the originating Marketplace Veterinarian is unavailable, in accordance with applicable veterinary practice acts and VCPR requirements. • Independently review medical records and exercise professional judgment to support defined continuity-of-care activities, including: • Prescription renewals for previously diagnosed conditions • Resolution of prescription fulfillment issues and pharmacy inquiries • Follow-up care and client communication related to established treatment plans • Act as the clinical decision-maker of record for assigned continuity cases, assuming professional responsibility for the medical decisions you personally make. • Partner closely with Vetster’s internal RVT team to: • Receive and triage escalated cases • Review refill and renewal requests identified through record review • Provide timely guidance and escalation decisions to avoid gaps in patient care • Lead the charge in enabling telehealth to go beyond the bounds of acute care needs. You will demonstrate how digital tools can effectively support chronic disease management, preventative health, nutrition, and behavior, ensuring continuity of care where it is often lacking. • Serve as the primary internal expert for exotic species, including hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, birds, reptiles, rabbits, and mice. You will champion the efficacy of telemedicine for exotics, helping owners triage issues and manage husbandry, nutrition, and minor medical concerns remotely. • Provide veterinary oversight and medical decision-making for a significant number of appointments involving retailer-owned or partner-managed animals. These cases offer: • SOPs for continuity-of-care workflows • Prescription renewal and escalation pathway • RVT-supported triage and follow-up models that remain compliant across jurisdictions • Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to enhance the platform experience for both veterinarians and pet parents, ensuring our tools support high-quality medical decision-making. • Represent the brand for media opportunities, PR campaigns, and industry conferences, articulating our mission to make pet care accessible. • Act as an internal thought leader for our network of independent contractor veterinarians, fostering community and sharing best practices for digital care. • Collaborate with the Marketing team to create educational content regarding pet ownership and the benefits of virtual care. • Partner with manufacturer pet services teams to provide compelling and unique education opportunities for our network of independent contractor veterinarians. • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of Vetster’s continuity-of-care model, helping ensure it reflects regulatory expectations, clinical best practices, and real-world veterinary workflows. What You Bring: • You are a DVM/VMD licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the United States with good standing, holding a license in one or multiple of the following states: California, Florida, Arizona, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia, and willing to add additional licenses in the future. • Bonus points if you are licensed in multiple of the states listed above. • You are passionate about Telemedicine with a genuine belief in the power of digital health to expand access to care and an entrepreneurial mindset toward testing new care models • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to act as a spokesperson for media and a mentor for peers. • Experience or interest in developing medical protocols and working collaboratively with veterinary technicians/nurses. • Proficiency with digital tools and a willingness to help build and scale e-commerce and telemedicine platforms.
