Search is pivotal to the Airbnb marketplace and is at the heart of business growth and thoughtful personalization of a high quality user experience. Our data scientists tackle challenges at the core of the business including personalizing our Guest Experience, building algorithms to target our Merchandising, understanding and measuring impact on user engagement of our Recommendations strategies. Collaborating with leaders across the company, you will play a key role in growing and accelerating both Stays and Airbnb Experiences businesses.</p> <h3>The Difference You Will Make:</h3> <p>As a Staff Data Scientist, you will be responsible for building data products, inference frameworks, and intelligence to optimize the Guest Experience and accelerate the growth of our marketplace. Your work will include:</p> <ul> <li>Specifying and estimating models to understand Guest preferences and intensity of their responses to different displays of personalized merchandising and search results</li> <li>Delivering data and insights to accelerate the ease of progressing Guests from search through booking</li> <li>Designing strategies to investigate, experiment and validate the impact of product and recommendation strategies in close collaboration with Product and Eng leaders across the company.</li> </ul> <h3>A Typical Day:</h3> <ul> <li>Understanding data and crafting models: You will mine various internal datasets and externally-derived knowledge to understand our users and develop models of guests behavioral responses to enable accurate and proactive decision-making around designing our product.</li> <li>Advanced causal inference: Utilizing cutting-edge causal inference techniques, you will quantify the impact of product and recommendation strategies on the customer journey, informing targeted improvements and interventions.</li> <li>Cross-functional collaboration: You will actively collaborate with teams across product and engineering to integrate data science insights into initiatives aimed at enhancing dynamic personalization and high quality guest experiences.</li> <li>Stakeholder engagement: You will engage with stakeholders to understand their business objectives and provide data-driven solutions tailored to these goals.</li> </ul> <h3>Your Expertise:</h3> <ul> <li>9+ years of relevant industry experience and a Master’s degree or PhD in a quantitative field<br /> Strong fluency in Python or R for hands-on IC work and SQL for advanced data analysis at scale</li> <li>Experience with causal inference and machine learning techniques, ideally in a setting working with Product, user-facing product, monetization, and/or multi-sided platform setting</li> <li>Proven ability to succeed in collaborative environments with cross-functional stakeholders and also in independent work environments</li> <li>Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively to audiences of varying technical levels</li> </ul> <h3>Your Location:</h3> <p>This position is US – Remote Eligible.
