We are looking for a Software Engineer – Gameplay Physics to help craft a new, unannounced game for Blizzard. As a key member of the development team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, physics-driven gameplay systems that support vehicle simulation, traversal, and combat experiences. You are comfortable operating in a dynamic environment, navigating fluid deadlines and changing priorities with purpose.   This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The home studio for this role is Irvine, CA. However, we understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore other possible options, including remote work arrangements.   Responsibilities   Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities: Collaborate with designers, artists, animators, and gameplay engineers to design, prototype, and implement polished physics-based vehicle and gameplay simulation systems. Develop, maintain, and optimize collision and physics frameworks with an emphasis on correctness, performance, scalability, and extensibility. Partner closely with cross-functional teams to achieve a unified gameplay vision and deliver AAA-quality player experiences. Conduct research and experimentation to evaluate new techniques and technologies that improve physics simulation and gameplay feel. Provide technical leadership through code reviews, architectural guidance, and mentorship of other engineers. Champion Blizzard Entertainment’s core values and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive development culture.   Experience 7+ years of professional gameplay engineering experience, or a combination of applicable training and related experience. Demonstrated contributions to the physics simulation or gameplay systems of at least one AAA game title or comparable real-time interactive application. Proven ability to work collaboratively within cross-disciplinary teams and foster productive partnerships across all departments. Demonstrated ability to inspire colleagues through an enthusiastic approach to game development and a commitment to continuous improvement of core skills. Ability to take initiative and manage responsibilities independently, demonstrating strong ownership and accountability. Experienced and knowledgeable player of a wide range of games; able to use this expertise to enhance creative and technical decisions.   Knowledge and Skills Strong C++ programming expertise, including profiling, performance analysis, and optimization of real-time systems. Extensive experience working with real-time 3D games and applied 3D mathematics. Experience delivering complex gameplay features in collaboration with designers, artists, animators, and level designers. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations.
