Public Safety Officer - Full Time & Part Time

Davis & Elkins College, in Elkins WV, has immediate openings for both full-time and part-time Public Safety Officers.

This position provides safety and security coverage to the campus of Davis and Elkins College. This person secures campus buildings & facilities, makes rounds and responds to calls. The schedule may vary depending upon the needs of the department, including evenings, nights and/or weekends.

DUTIES

  • Respond to students/staff with safety concerns as presented and in accordance with written policies and procedures.
  • Provide on-campus shuttle service for students, staff and faculty as requested.
  • Conduct foot patrols every hour after buildings have been secured.
  • Enforce campus policies as per direction of Director (e.g., parking, alcohol)
  • Maintain appropriate records and reports.
  • Secure buildings in manner as developed by Director.
  • Direct traffic at events and enforce traffic/parking violations.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations of all crimes and violations of conduct.
  • Attend trainings or other meetings as called by the supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PREREQUISITES / EDUCATION

  • High school diploma required
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must possess a valid WV driver’s license

SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate well with student population
  • Ability to work alone and be self-motivated
  • Must be able to work/walk on a hillside campus
  • Must work in inclement weather
