Role Overview
The Process Control Clerk II acts as a central Facilities Operations Technician, responsible for monitoring site-wide operating parameters and ensuring the seamless functionality of facility infrastructure. This role serves as a critical communication hub, interfacing between Accelerator Operations, Building Managers, and external utility entities (such as PG&E) to maintain optimal operational status and safety compliance.
Responsibilities System Monitoring & Control: Monitor site operating parameters via control systems (EPICS, DDC); notify appropriate shops for adjustments to maintain optimal operations.
Operational Coordination: Facilitate daily communications between Facilities groups, Accelerator Control Rooms (ACR), and SPEAR Operations.
External Liaison: Coordinate operations with outside contractors and utility providers during outages, power switching, equipment servicing, and site installations.
Documentation & Logging: Maintain thorough records in the online e-log, update CATERs, and manage task tracking programs. Ensure flow switch files and pressure documentation are current.
Emergency Response: Respond to site emergencies including blackouts, brownouts, water leaks, and power outages.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure all Facilities Operations groups adhere to ES&H safety procedures and STA-mandated training.
Administrative Support: Attend meetings as a Facilities/FOC representative and respond to inquiries from Area Managers and facility users.
Qualifications Experience: Proven experience with site-wide operations, facility procedures, and beam/laser operation requirements.
Technical Systems: Proficiency in navigating control systems such as EPICS and DDC.
Computer Skills: Strong competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other computer-based task management programs.
Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to work through breaks/lunches and adjust shift start/end times as operations dictate, in accordance with Collective Bargaining rules regarding overtime and compensatory time.
Safety: Completion of all safety training as mandated by the Site Training Assessment (STA).
Preferred Skills Multi-tasking: Ability to manage high-pressure situations, such as handling radio/phone calls while simultaneously managing outage scripts and updating logs.
Communication: Exceptional etiquette in email, text, telephone, and radio communications.
Organization: Strong time management skills and the ability to generate reports and maintain complex paper and digital filing systems.
Interpersonal: Ability to communicate effectively with technical support, contractors, and management during stressful, time-sensitive events.
