Principal Trainer (EPR)
Lewisham and Greenwich is embarking on the biggest programme of digitally-enabled clinical and operational transformation we have ever undertaken. The Electronic Patient Record (EPR) Acceleration Programme is our exciting and challenging programme aimed at transforming the way we deliver health and care in a way that is both clinically and financially sustainable. It will underpin everything we do for our patients and carers, people and communities, as well as creating a working environment that better enables our staff to deliver the best care they can every day.
We will be joining our regional partner organisations, Guy’s and St. Thomas’ and King’s College Hospitals, on their Epic EPR platform to deliver a shared acute and community record across south-east London. Through this implementation, we will be able to increase joint working and improve patient and staff experience across the region.
Key to the success of the EPR implementation will be supporting Lewisham and Greenwich staff to adopt the new ways of working from go-live. Our Principal Trainers will work collaboratively with Principal Trainers in the other two trusts to prepare for our EPR go-live in 2027. They will ensure that the training curriculum, environments, and programme delivery meets the needs of the Trust and support the testing of the solution for go-live.
The Principal Trainer role is a new position in the EPR Programme that will unify our patient record across Lewisham and Greenwich acute and community services, as well as our partner trusts.
The Principal Trainer will deliver and develop the Epic training environment and curriculum through close engagement with programme, clinical, and operational staff. They will manage go-live trainers and ensure successful delivery of the go-live training programme.
They will:
Manage, coordinate, and lead the training requirements and ensure the training curriculum and environments are delivered in a timely way
Analyse and suggest ways to improve current workflows
Plan and deliver training for the solution
Work with other teams to support system demonstrations and presentations
Support the planning for system implementation
Our people are our greatest asset. When we feel supported and happy at work, this positivity reaches those very people we are here for, the patients. Engaged employees perform at their best and our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) initiatives contribute to cultivate a culture of engagement. We have four staff networks, a corporate EDI Team and a suite of programmes and events which aim to insert the 5 aspirations:
Improving representation at senior levels of staff with disabilities, from black, Asian, and ethnic minorities background, identify as LGBTQ+ and women, through improved recruitment and leadership development
Widening access (anchor institution) and employability
Improving the experience of staff with disability
Improving the EDI literacy and confidence of trust staff through training and development
Making equalities mainstream
- Define the training curriculum and develop course materials in close collaboration with the Application and Configuration Teams
- Ensure the training programme incorporates not only ‘how to use the system’ but also the critical changes in working practice and their importance in improving efficiency, quality, and overall delivery of patient care
- Engage in the workflow design and systems build with configuration colleagues
- Build the training environment of the solution, alongside aids to support ongoing learning
- Communicate highly complex work processes, using your knowledge of local workflows
- Guide staff on the course of action to take during design of new patient pathways
- Design components of the go-live readiness programme to ensure successful adoption, and ensure that resources delivering end-user training are adequately prepared.
