OFFICE SPECIALIST

The Clark County Human Resources Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Office Specialist position. This position provides difficult, technical, complex or specialized office support to various County and related local government offices.<br data-pasted="true"><br><strong>THIS IS A COUNTYWIDE RECRUITMENT OPPORTUNITY AND IS OPEN ONLY TO FULL-TIME PERMANENT EMPLOYEES OF CLARK COUNTY WHO HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THEIR PROBATIONARY PERIOD.</strong><br><br>This examination will establish a Countywide Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the net six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.<br><br>Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.<br><br>Some positions may be used to fill term Limited-Permanent positions. The selected candidates will be hired for a special project or duties of a limited duration and be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying condition and exact dates of employment. The successful selected candidates will be eligible for benefits during the duration of employment.<br><br>Some positions may be Grant Funded. Grant Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of grant funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.<br><br>Some positions may be Bond Funded. Bond Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of bond funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.<br><br>Some positions may be used to fill Permanent-Intermittent positions. The selected candidates will work a regular schedule or more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours in a workweek. They will be paid at the approved hourly rate for actual hours worked. The successful selected candidates will be eligible for benefits on a prorated basis based on hours worked in a pay period.<br><br>Some positions may be used to fill Job Share positions. Job Share positions are for two (2) employees performing in permanent positions of the same classification who share one specific job. Time worked will be 21 hours per week. Job Share employees will be paid at their hourly rate for actual hours worked. Sick and vacation leave benefits will accrue on a prorated basis based on hours worked in a pay period.<br><br>Some positions may be confidential positions and are excluded from membership in the union.<br><br>Some positions may be non-union positions and are excluded from membership in the union.<p><strong>Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND two (2) years of full-time general clerical, customer service, or office assistant experience.  Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.</strong></p>All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. <strong>Do</strong> <strong>not</strong> substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.</p><strong>Citizenship:</strong> Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. <strong>Please note,</strong>Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.<p><br></p><p><strong>Pre-Employment Drug Testing:</strong> Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.</p><ul><li>Performs difficult, complex technical and/or specialized office support work, which requires the exercise of independent judgment, the application of technical skills and a knowledge of detailed or specialized activities related to the department to which assigned. </li><li>Uses a computer to develop and manage databases and/or spreadsheet files and to develop special report formats. </li><li>Researches and assembles information from a variety of sources for the completion of forms or the preparation of reports; makes arithmetic or statistical calculations. </li><li>Conducts specific projects related to the department or office to which assigned; may obtain and/or provide information from other organizations, summarize such information and prepare recommendations. </li><li>Provides information to the public or to County staff that requires the use of judgment and the interpretation of policies, rules or procedures. </li><li>Arranges meetings by notifying attendees, reserving rooms and making lodging and/or meal arrangements. </li><li>Organizes, maintains and purges various departmental files. </li><li>Prepares and types correspondence, reports, forms, contracts and specialized documents from drafts, notes, dictated tapes, or brief instructions, using a typewriter, word processor or computer; may provide secretarial support on a relief basis. </li><li>Proofreads and checks typed and other materials for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental policies and regulations. </li><li>Enters and retrieves data and prepares reports using a computer; reviews such reports for accuracy and makes corrections as required; operates standard office equipment. </li><li>Oversees and personally performs a variety of office administrative details such as entering employee time, preparing purchase requisitions, arranging for the repair of equipment, transmitting information, and keeping reference materials up to date. </li><li>Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. </li><li>Acts as receptionist and receives and screens visitors and telephone calls and directs the caller to the proper person or personally handles the call; provides information which requires the use of judgment and interpretation of policies, rules and procedures. </li><li>May train others in work procedures or direct the work of others on a project or relief basis. </li><li>May perform technical support work related to the department to which assigned. </li><li>May perform drafting duties. </li><li>May perform payroll coordination duties for a specific unit, including entering employee time into a computer, retrieving data and compiling reports, instructing employees on time sheet procedures, and answering and researching payroll discrepancies. </li><li>May be required to operate a motor vehicle.</li></ul>Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Specified positions may be required to drive a motor vehicle to various locations throughout the County and/or lift or move heavy materials.
