What You Will Do

The Building System Surveyor supports Johnson Controls Building Solutions HVAC sales associates by performing on-time and accurate customer site surveys and project design deliverables. This role operates at the local branch level in collaboration with Global Center of Excellence (GCoE) Application Engineers, maintaining familiarity with local authorities, subcontractor relationships, and JCI’s core Controls, Equipment, and Service offerings. The Surveyor ensures HVAC sellers’ pre-sale needs are met through high-quality collaboration, professional on-site assessments, and adherence to standardized processes and deliverables.

How You Will Do It

  • Conduct timely and accurate mechanical equipment or control system surveys and on-site assessments to meet pre-sale support requests.

  • Coordinate with local subcontractor representatives to obtain project bid quotes and pricing proposals.

  • Complete and deliver COE survey documentation using platforms such as Salesforce, Office 365, and SharePoint.

  • Review project costing estimates with local installation or operations management in coordination with COE application engineers.

  • Adhere strictly to standardized processes and complete deliverable documentation (e.g., site survey forms, floorplan drawings with device placement).

  • Maintain strong familiarity with local subcontractor resource availability and competencies.

  • Monitor and track local AHJ expectations, regulations, and permitting requirements.

  • Support sales by providing installation/operations teams with pre-installation scope of work debriefs.

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of JCI’s core product and service offerings.

  • Serve as a local point of contact for JCI sellers to facilitate resolution or handoff when on-site presence is necessary.

  • Ensure all activities and responsibilities comply with current policies, procedures, programs, and services.

What We Look For

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • 5 years of field experience in HVAC Operations, Installation/Service and or 8 plus years of HVAC Sales experience. 

  • At least 5 years of field experience in HVAC, including controls, mechanical systems, equipment, service, and/or maintenance programs.

  • Familiarity with IP networking practices, including basic Layer 3 concepts and functions.

  • Experience with computer-aided drafting software.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound business decisions under pressure.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint.

  • Ability to learn JCI-specific platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Selection Navigator, NxGen).

  • Effective time management and multitasking skills.

  • Ability to travel to customer and JCI branch locations.

  • Occasional but limited travel required.

Preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in system design and installation or service program cost estimating for HVAC controls or equipment in a commercial sales environment

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $91,000 to $143,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This role offers a competitive Bonus plan that will take into account individual, group, and corporate performance. This position includes a competitive benefits package.
