ABOUT THIS POSITION
The City of Phoenix Office of Heat Response and Mitigation is charged with establishing and implementing a cohesive strategy to address the growing hazard of urban heat in the nation's hottest large city. The office develops plans and programs that include short-term strategies to protect public health during extreme heat events and long-term strategies to create a cooler, safer, and more comfortable city for all.
The Office of Heat Response and Mitigation seek a Heat Relief Training Coordinator to help design and deliver a new annual education and engagement program for City of Phoenix employees who support the regional Heat Relief Network. Each year, more than 60 City of Phoenix facilities are designated as hydration stations, cooling centers, and respite centers as part of a coordinated regional effort to reduce heat-related illnesses and deaths. The Heat Relief Training Coordinator will help ensure that city staff from a wide range of departments who support those sites are well prepared to serve the public health mission of the Heat Relief Network.
The Heat Relief Training Coordinator will be responsible for expanding and improving employee-facing educational resources for City Heat Relief Network sites, with specific duties including (1) conducting surveys and listening sessions with stakeholders to inform curriculum development, (2) collaborating with city departments and external partners to design and deliver a training program, (3) working with contractors to implement the training program in a digital, web-based platform, (4) integrating training program content into the City's hazard mitigation planning process, (5) creating content and marketing materials for web and social media, and (6) developing and reporting on key performance indicators to document program success. This position is funded by a federal grant and will be hired as a Curriculum and Training Coordinator within the City's job classification system. The grant funding supporting this position expires March 31, 2027.
This is a temporary position, funded by a federal grant, and will be hired as a Curriculum and Training Coordinators within the City's job classification system. This grant-funded position will be funded through March 2027, with a possibility to be made regular in a future budget cycle. The temporary position will have benefits but will not earn city retirement credits or participate financially into the city's retirement program. If the successful candidate is a current City employee, all benefits will still be applicable, and the employee will still contribute to their pension. Temporary positions are not covered under civil service rules, and thus employment is considered "at-will", and employees may be separated at any time.

Familiarity with the public health response to extreme heat in central Arizona.
Knowledgeable on how to develop and implement key performance indicators and other mechanisms to document program impacts.

SALARY
Pay Range: $66,185.60 to $113,193.60 annually.
Hiring Range: $66,185.60 to $84,468.80 annually.

Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
Internal Only: Please understand that this is pay grade 061. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.
Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.

Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of experience in training and development programs at a level which required supervision or participation in the planning and programming process; Including one year of experience developing supervisory or management training programs.
Bachelor's degree in education, business, sociology, psychology or a related field
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted

Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.
