About Us

The State Bureau of Investigation’s mission is to serve Sheriffs, Police Chiefs, and District Attorneys as well as State and Federal partners, by investigating crimes and providing technical assistance in order to increase public safety for the citizens of the state of North Carolina. The SBI does so by conducting criminal investigations of allegations in areas of jurisdiction including narcotics, arson, election laws, misuse of state property, environmental crimes, human trafficking, child sexual abuse in day care centers, and threats made against public officials. The SBI provides support to local agencies related to computer crime investigations, use of force investigations, deaths in custody, crime scenes, financial crimes, missing and endangered persons, public corruption, cold cases, K9, special response team, bomb squad, and air wing. The SBI serves as North Carolina's repository of information on criminal history records, fingerprint identification, expungements, sex offender registry, and concealed handgun permits. The SBI manages the North Carolina Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAAC), which is the fusion center for the state of North Carolina, as well as the Behavioral Threat Assessment Unit, which assesses and manages threats of mass violence.

Description of Work

The Fixed Asset and Inventory Specialist is a non-sworn position located in the Logistics Section within the Administration and Support Services Division of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, located in Raleigh, NC (Wake County).

The Fixed Asset and Inventory Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the agency's fixed asset inventory system in compliance with state and accounting and property management regulations. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Establishing standardized processes for tracking, tagging, and reporting on all agency-owned property and equipment.
  • Designing and maintaining a fixed asset database; coordinating physical inventories, reconciling records with accounting data, and ensure accuracy and accountability of assets across the agency.
  • Developing and implementing inventory tracking systems and associated procedures.
  • Accurately recording, classifying, and reconciling asset data.
  • Interpreting and applying state property management policies and fiscal regulations.
  • Performing detailed analyses to identify discrepancies or irregularities in asset records.
  • Planning and conducting physical inventories independently and systematically.
  • Training and assisting staff in following asset control policies.
  • Maintaining organized documentation and ensuring compliance with audit requirements.
  • Coordinating surplus of agency-owned property and equipment.
  • Assisting with other functions within the SBI Logistics section including surplus, equipment, vehicles, and mail, as assigned by the Special Agent in Charge (SAC).

Salary Range: $41,206 - $54,549

The Minimum Education and Experience (E&E) is REQUIRED to qualify for this position. Management also prefers:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of accounting, inventory control, and asset management.

  • Knowledge of State of North Carolina property control regulations and fiscal reporting standards.

  • Ability to establish and maintain internal control frameworks for safeguarding assets.

  • Ability to establish recordkeeping and data reconciliation methods.

  • Knowledge of information systems or database management used for asset tracking (e.g., Excel, Access, or enterprise systems like NCFS Fixed Assets Module)

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with Benefits .

Selected candidates will undergo and must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation which includes: credit and arrest checks; interviews with associates, personal and business references; verification interviews of employers; verification of education achievement; urinalysis drug screening; and submission of fingerprints.

Per North Carolina General Statute 143B-1209.54 , applicants hired into a position certified as a criminal justice officer or justice officer are required to electronically submit fingerprints to the NC State Bureau of Investigation for a state and national criminal history record check and enrollment in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Next Generation Identification (NGI) System and Criminal Justice Record of Arrest and Prosecution Background (Rap Back) Service . Veteran’s and National Guard Preference
