Individual will be responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of underground gas mains and services. This job entails physically demanding work including nearly continuous standing, walking, bending, crouching, and stooping throughout the entire shift. Responsibilities will include working in a crew of 2-3 individuals.

Position Description:

Individual will remove, repair, replace, and install various sizes and types of gas piping; investigate and repair gas odor complaints; operate various types of pavements breaking and road cutting equipment; and operate a backhoe and dump truck. The selected candidate must also perform walking leak surveys; perform underground utility mark outs; and perform drilling and tapping of various sizes and types of gas mains. Individual will be required during periods of trouble call assignment to make themselves available at their reporting base within approximately 30 minutes. Selected candidates will be subject to work shift work. Holding a Commercial Driver's License is preferred.

Starting Rate of Pay: $32.26 per hour

Principal Duties:

  • Remove, repair, replace and install various sizes and types of gas piping.

  • Investigate and repair gas odor complaints.

  • Operate various types of pavement breaking and road cutting equipment

  • Operation of backhoe and dump truck.

  • Perform walking leak survey.

  • Perform underground utility mark outs

  • Perform drilling and tapping various sizes and types of gas mains.

Position Requirements:

A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.

A valid driver’s license and clean driving record. 

Two years of related experience is preferred for the helper level.

The selected candidate must have the ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle which includes meeting the physical and qualification requirements for a DOT Medical Card; be able to wear a respirator, or self-contained breathing apparatus; perform excavation duties including the use of pavement breaker and shovels; and have access to construction sites that are non-handicapped accessible. In addition, individual must be able to move and lift material weighing up to 60 lbs.; and must be able to perform on-call emergency response duties. The selected candidate will be exposed to environmental elements e.g., extreme heat, cold, etc., possible exposure to confined spaces, solvents, cutting oils, epoxies, flammable gases, and nuisance dusts. Floor to knuckle lifting will be a major role in this position.
