Director of Communications & Education Foundation

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provide executive leadership and strategic oversight for the Conroe ISD Education Foundation, with responsibility for all Foundation operations, including fundraising, scholarships, grants, donor relations, events, and strategic partnerships. Plan, direct, and coordinate district-wide community relations and external engagement in support of Conroe ISD goals and The Texas Standard initiative, and serve as the principal liaison to community organizations, business partners, and philanthropic stakeholders.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Align Foundation goals with district strategic priorities, academic initiatives, and the mission of Conroe ISD.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal, and IRS regulations related to fundraising, donations, scholarships, and charitable activity.
  • Maintain Foundation bylaws, protocols, operating procedures, and policy documents.
  • Prepare and deliver regular reports to the Foundation Board, district leadership, and the CISD Board of Trustees regarding Foundation performance.
  • Ensure that all contributions, expenditures, and scholarships are accurately tracked and fully auditable.
  • Maintain a Foundation bank account and financial structure consistent with district policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Direct, coordinate, and evaluate community partnerships and engagement initiatives district-wide.
  • Represent Conroe ISD and the Foundation at civic organizations, chamber events, community meetings, and district campuses.
  • Strengthen public understanding and visibility of Conroe ISD through strategic communication and community engagement.
  • Oversee the Communications Department to support district messaging, branding, and public-facing initiatives for the Education Foundation.
  • Maintain strong relationships with parents, community members, business leaders, elected officials, alumni, and education partners.
  • Oversee operational planning for the Foundation, including: Teacher grant programs; Staff scholarship programs; Student scholarship programs; Annual fundraising events; Donor stewardship and recognition; Endowed funds and major gifts; Payroll-deduction fundraising.
  • Lead planning and execution of Education Foundation fundraising events, scholarship ceremonies, and donor appreciation gatherings.
  • Coordinate event logistics including venue selection, run-of-show, A/V needs, photography, video support, and promotional materials.
  • Oversee branding and communication related to all Foundation and district-sponsored events.
  • Develop event evaluation processes to measure impact, attendance, engagement, and communication.
  • Identify, solicit, and cultivate major donors, business partners, and philanthropic relationships.
  • Develop strategies to increase revenue, expand donor participation, and enhance long-term sustainability.
  • Negotiate partnership agreements and sponsorship arrangements that benefit the district and Foundation.
  • Provide professional guidance to staff supporting Foundation operations or community partnership activities.
  • Foster a collaborative, service-oriented culture within the department.
  • Develop and manage the annual Foundation budget and ensure prudent and compliant fiscal management.
  • Supervise the recording, accountability, and acknowledgment of donations.
  • Coordinate with the CISD Business Office to ensure accurate financial reporting, budget oversight, and auditing for Foundation accounts.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three (3) years nonprofit management and fundraising experience
  • Three (3) years communication and marketing experience

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, nonprofit management, education, or related field

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong leadership, organization, communication, and public relations skills
  • Experience in event management, including logistics, timelines, vendors, sponsorship, and promotion
  • Knowledge of nonprofit operations, including fundraising, donor stewardship, budgets, and financial processes
  • Understanding of scholarships, grants, and charitable compliance
  • Proven ability to build partnerships with community groups, businesses, and civic organizations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
