Assistant Professor of Nursing/Director, MSN & Graduate Certificate Programs
This faculty position is officially supervised by the Dean of the Ann Blanton Edwards School of Nursing and Health Sciences (ABESNHS). The incumbent is responsible for meeting Florida Southern College defined expectations for all faculty in the areas of teaching, service, and scholarship as delineated in the Florida Southern College Faculty Handbook.
*At the discretion of the Dean, the incumbent of this position may also serve as the Director of the Master of Science in Nursing and Post-Graduate APRN Certificate Programs (MSN Programs).
Duties and Responsibilities – Assistant Professor
The incumbent of this position is responsible for:
- Providing both didactic and clinical instruction in the MSN program and other programs as needed to meet the needs of the ABESNHS and Florida Southern College
- Maintaining positive relationships and actively collaborate with major clinical and community organizations serving the MSN program
- Demonstrating collaboration, collegiality, and support for program excellence
- Providing advising and mentoring for students to advance student success
- Engaging in research and/or scholarly activities
- Engage in professional and community service
- Contributing to ongoing curriculum and program improvements
- Participating in the review and selection of prospective students to the MSN Program
- Participating in faculty governance through service on Program, School, and College committees
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean
Duties and Responsibilities – MSN and Post-Graduate APRN Certificate Program Director (if/as applicable)
Additional responsibilities associated with the MSN and Post-Graduate APRN Certificate Program Director role, if/as assigned to the incumbent at the discretion of the Dean, include:
- Leading and coordinating day-to-day operations of the MSN Program
- Leading, planning, and coordinating MSN adjunct faculty activities
- Leading, planning, and guiding MSN Program curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and improvement
- Participating in the recruitment and hiring of MSN faculty (full-time and adjunct)
- Serving as the MSN Program primary liaison to the MSN community of interest
- Proposing faculty assignments
- Creating and submitting course schedules
- Drafting faculty annual evaluations
- Creating reports, including accreditation reports, as required by the ABESNHS and/or Florida Southern College
- Ongoing evaluation and improvement of teaching-learning activities and program outcomes
- Participating in annual budget preparation exercises
- Creating and/or maintaining the accuracy of all MSN Program handbooks and MSN Program-related content in the Florida Southern College Academic Catalog
- Monitoring and ensuring accuracy of MSN-related website, promotional, and other materials used to communicate information to the MSN Program community of interest
- Completing other duties and special projects as assigned by the Dean
Requirements include a doctoral degree from an accredited institution, national certification as a Nurse Practitioner, Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure, experience in the nurse practitioner role, and teaching experience at the graduate level. Additional national certifications and academic program leadership experience may also be considered in candidate selection.
Working Conditions and Requirements
The incumbent of this position is required to work a flexible schedule which may include evening and weekend hours and to travel within and beyond the region as necessary to promote the mission and vision of the Ann Blanton Edwards School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
